March, in this region, was supposed to be mild! We were promised that the temperature would rise above zero! We thought winter, which began in November 2025, was over!
According to the Farmer’s Almanac, spring was supposed to begin in March and be cool and fairly rainy, but not as chaotic—or even dramatic—as the past few weeks have been in Montreal. Rain, freezing rain, snowstorms, and high winds. We’ve gone from 15 degrees yesterday, Monday, March 16, 2026, to -15 degrees today, Tuesday, March 17. That’s a drop of 30 degrees in 24 hours.
With blue fingertips, a coat unsuitable for the outside temperature, and a touch of seasonal depression that’s returned in recent days, we’re going to take a look at the Météo Média forecast for Montreal.
So, when is spring coming?
According to Météo Média, the forecast for the coming weeks in Montreal is for below-average temperatures and heavy precipitation.
The last few years have apparently been mild, and winter has been short and mild compared to the averages—according to the nostalgic, winters of yesteryear were much harsher. And there you have it: the winter of 2025–2026 is a thing of the past.
We’re expecting another 50 cm of snow before the end of April in Montreal… Yes.
Due to the La Niña weather phenomenon, which is slowly fading, the coming weeks will be colder than expected. La Niña is a weather phenomenon caused by a thermal anomaly in the equatorial waters of the Pacific Ocean. La Niña is a local cooling effect brought about by the cooling of the waters.
Météo Média also forecasts a return to a neutral climate pattern this spring, which could help bring about the—belated but welcome—arrival of spring.

In short, spring is coming in May.
And in the meantime?
As for the seasonal blues, which were almost pleasant in January but become a heavy burden to bear in March, we have a few remedies to suggest;
- we head to a spa: light therapy, sauna, cold bath—to thaw out our muscles, and if we close our eyes, it’s as if we were at the beach
- we’re off to watch the river thaw: if we watch it, it’ll go faster, right?
- we’re eating chocolate bunnies: because it’s Easter and because the bunny is a symbol of renewal and spring
