What will we do when spring returns? Head to the countryside with our rain boots (the same ones we’ve had for 10 years, which are slightly embarrassing due to their condition but protect us from the mud) to see the first flowers sprout from the ground? Discover a passion for balcony gardening? Sunbathe (in a coat, of course) sitting on the metal stairs?
While we wait impatiently to get out our trench coats and umbrellas, we have the Farmers’ Almanac’s weather predictions for spring in Montreal.
The Almanac
To find out what the weather will be like in the coming months, this is the best source to refer to.
An almanac is a“popular book published annually that includes a calendar and scientific or practical information,”according to Larousse Online. Almanacs in their current form have medieval origins. They also existed in Ancient Rome, the Middle East (the word has Arabic origins), and Russia.

Since 1915,Quebec has had an almanac:the Almanach du Peuple, whichno longer seems to exist.
Finally,we’ve just learned that it’s apparently pronounced al-ma-na on its own, with the “k” sound only used in conjunction with another word…
Weather forecast for spring 2026
According to the Almanac, April and May will be cooler and wetter than normal. At first glance, this seems like bad news—but it’s not necessarily a negative forecast.
Yes, there will be more precipitation than in other years. But given that, according to our March forecast, spring will arrive quickly, good rain (and even a few storms) will be beneficial for the growth of flowers and fruits when summer arrives.
In April, it will rain and we will see the last snowflakes of winter fall on the grass… It will also be the season for tulips, forget-me-nots, and daffodils —which is still enchanting, even in the rain.
In May, the weather will be unstable and heavy, with sporadic thunderstorms expected.
Happy spring! This is the year to invest in a new pair of rain boots!
