Sunday June 15 is Father’s Day in Canada, and we love our dads – and our father figures, our uncles, our grandfathers, our coaches.
Fathers are never quite sure what to give them, and even in the city, they’re less pampered by the marketing yuppies than mothers.
But, of course, we know how to celebrate them so that they feel how important they are to us – and we don’t need an advertising campaign and the capitalist effervescence of the country’s florists to spend a special day with them.
The STM strike will take a break this weekend, so no stress about getting around Montreal on Father’s Day!
For dads who like to watch sports on TV…
It’s F1 Grand Prix weekend, and while we might prefer to take a long walk in the sun, sometimes we have to accept that what our dads want is simply to watch F1 on TV (with us, of course).
For a change from the sofa and wings, we take our dads to Tag Resto Bar, in Sainte-Thérèse, to eat wings and ribs with the electric atmosphere of the Grand Prix, and several giant screens.
We can also take the dads to one of the F1-dedicated areas where we can also watch the race live, at Formule Peel, or on Crescent.
We’ll also be stopping by one of the hotspots invested by Peroni Nastro Azzuro beer throughout F1 weekend, with Peroni beers, cocktails, prizes to be won, pizzas and a photobooth (because we can never have enough photos with Dad).

For the dads who are always telling us to go out and play…
There are dads who, throughout our adolescence, have despaired of seeing us in front of the computer, in front of the playstation, or during long naps with the curtains drawn. And, for their birthday, we’re going outside to play – finally!
There’s the great classic: helping out with yard work, accompanying the dads to the Canadian Tire, repainting the deck, trimming the hedge, mowing the lawn.
But we can also take him to the great outdoors to walk, fish or just hang out, not far from Montreal. We’ll drive, and he’ll pretend he’s afraid for his life because we’re driving badly… a great day out with our dads!
- 1h from Montreal; Frelighsburg, Venise-en-Québec
- 2h from Montreal; Mont Orford, Champlain
For music-loving dads…
This weekend, it ‘ s also the Francos de Montréal, and there are plenty of free concerts (and paying ones, so we won’t be too cheap for Dad Sunday) that we can go and see with our dads…

For gourmet dads…
BBQ champions, the only ones who can slice lobster properly, smoked meat experts, tasters of our vaguely burnt pillsbury cookies and culinary experiments…
If our dad’s anything like the Anthony Bourdain of our lives, we’re going to take him out for something to eat at one of our favorite restaurants in town! Let’s make a reservation…
- Chez Foiegwa, for black pudding
- Mano Cornuto, for pasta and Peroni (it’s also one of Peroni Nastro Azzuro’s pitstops during F1)
- Molenne, for lamb brick and oysters
- chez Nolan, for beef tongue
- at Siamo Noi, for polpo
and for those who just want to drink a beer and eat fries with their dad, we’ve got a guide to our favorite microbreweries in Montreal -here!
And if we don’t, we’ll spend the day with our dad doing nothing, watching movies, going out for coffee… All we want is to spend some quality time together, and we’ll end up doing whatever our fathers want on Sunday!
Happy Father’s Day!
