Wheat is sweet, Montreal thrifts are piling reclaimed tartan on the shelves and Canada Notebooks smell like back-to-school… But we’re still spending weekends at the cottage, sitting by the lake, sweating -a little nauseous after the kilo of s’mores the day before.
The kids are going back to school, those who took a vacation are going back to work, but in Montreal we know that on weekends, it’ll still be a bit of summer…
Here’s our agenda for September!
September 1: Labor Day, and the last long weekend of summer
It’s officially the beginning of the end of summer, and with it the last long weekend of the season; the Labor Day long weekend.
It’s a holiday for playing hooky, and a paid day for Quebec employers. Most businesses will be closed -not all, of course- because it’s a holiday for baristas and Montreal employees too. Everyone will be out fishing.
Labour Day this year will be Monday, September 1, 2025. That means we’ll have a long weekend: Saturday August 3rd, Sunday August 31st and Monday September 1st.
September 5: Dîner en Blanc

Le Dîner en Blanc is intended to be more than an event, to be – like the great artists’ and aristocrats’ balls – a cultural movement and community builder around the French joie de vivre .
The event is not new, nor did it originate in Montreal. The first dîner en blanc was a picnic in the Bois de Boulogne – where everyone had to wear white to be recognized– on the outskirts of Paris, organized by a reserve officer returning from a stay in Polynesia.
Even if we get our tickets now, the dinner venue remains a secret until the last moment – a gathering point is given, and all guests meet there and walk to the dinner venue.
Then, once everyone’s settled, white napkins are waved in the air, and we eat, drink gallons of champagne, dance the night away…
Where? Montreal – location withheld
When? September 5, 2025
How? To attend the dinner, register on the guest list ( membership fee: $14.00 per person) and purchase tickets;

September 5 – 7: L’OKTO de Repentigny (Oktoberfest)
As with the iconic Bavarian festival, there’ll be music, beer, rides and games…
Classic Oktoberfest games are promised in Repentigny, and after a bit of research we’ve come up with a list of these boozy Olympics.
- pretzel toss
- beer pong
- hau den lukas – a contest of strength with a jackhammer
- mug relay contest – running with a flat beer mug at arm’s length
We can’t wait to see what’s in store at Repentigny’s OKTO games.

September 7: Full red moon of September

The moon will be red on September 7, because the full moon is accompanied by a total lunar eclipse.
The September full moon is known as the “Full Corn Moon” or “Full Harvest Moon”, because harvests are at their peak at this time of year.
The aboriginal nations of Quebec and North America also have several names for this full moon: Autumn Moon (Cree), Falling Leaves Moon (Ojibwe), Color-Changing Leaves Moon (Anishinaabe), according to the Farmer’s Almanac.
It’s a full moon that signals the end of summer, and this year it’s red, thanks to the eclipse!
September 9-26: La Faune Locale in5@7 at Théâtre Duceppe
In Montreal, we’ve got drawers and fridge doors full of tickets and playbills for plays, concerts, independent films, exhibitions, cocktail galleries, speed-dating-wine-tasting and festivals of all kinds… All of which is to say that sometimes, the cornucopia of cultural offerings in the city, which ranks among North America’s top artistic hubs , is almost too abundant.
You can see films “en 5 à 7”, which presents short one-act plays – between 45 and 60 minutes – backstage at the theater, accompanied by a drink and a sofa (the snack, not the sofa). It’s the perfect aperitif (or pre-apéro)!
In September, the play La Faune Locale will be at Duceppe for a 5 à 7.
“Is the world divided into victims and executioners? Or are we simply the product of the wickedness of the system? When Claude, an ordinary guy, no more or less mean than the average, gets kicked out of the pharmaceutical company to which he’s given 30 years of his life, something inside him goes haywire. Apparently, even a Labrador retriever can reconnect with his predatory instincts…”
