After Montreal’s first snow day on November 9, we’ve officially declared the holiday season open!
Of course, we’ve already got a jam-packed calendar of our outings for the next month and a bit –raclettes with friends, gingerbread cocktails at Taverne de Noël, figure skating lessons, trips to Montreal’s holiday markets…
But we also want to spend time playing in the snow, taking our first walks in the white-covered forests and enjoying one of the most beautiful seasons in Quebec – and for that, we’re going to visit a super-charming Christmas market 1h20 from Montreal in November or December.
A mountain village favored by the coolest Montrealers we know
Sutton is a village with a road leading up to the ski resort where everyone learned to ski, a main street lined with colorful American-style wooden houses with wrap-around porches, diners and a magical spring just outside town.

Basically, Sutton is a village that exudes childhood memories, the simple happiness of winter vacations and, of course, the best days of the holiday season.
We know Sutton for its walks and its ski resort, but this time we’re going to talk about its annual Christmas market…
Sutton Christmas Market

The Sutton Christmas Market is coming to town for two consecutive weekends – the last weekend in November and the first in December – so we’ve got plenty of time to add it to our calendar!
It’s an old-fashioned market, reminiscent of the traditional markets of old Europe and the roast-goose, wood-fired world of Little Women (The Four Daughters of Dr. Marsh).
You’ll find Santa and Mother Christmas, live holiday music, an elf juggler, a flute player and booths featuring the region’s most talented artisans. You’ll be able to stock up on mittens, tuques and gloves woven from the wool of the Alpacas we visited this fall, as well as sea buckthorn berry creams, honey from Mellonia Farm and lots of other gifts to put under the tree.
