Our walks in the forest this autumn are a time to do several things we only do during this season: pick up a bit of everything that falls from the trees (with the instinct of a squirrel), discover a passion for the mountains, replace 90% of our daily liquids with coffee.
And, while we’re out and about, we’re also longing for a return to the school trips to the farm of our childhood, the gentle goats, the bouette and the noisy chicken coops.
The Holy Grail of soft-furred animals (which used to scare us as kids) is the alpaca – and, of course, an alpaca farm in one of the most beautiful parts of Quebec is a must-see this autumn.
Alpacas Sutton
The Sutton alpaca farm is about 4km square, and some 30 alpacas live there like kings. Their pens are large and surrounded by the most beautiful nature in the region – the colorful hills of the Eastern Townships.
The farm, which also has a boutique for our knitting wool(because we’re going to learn this autumn, it’s on our bucket list) offers self-guided walks.
You can stroll along the trails that cross the farm and the surrounding forest, sit on a picnic table and watch the long-legged fur balls, and take a deep breath of the autumn air.
Plus…
After a visit to the Sutton Alpaca Farm, you can take a stroll through the region, which has many vineyards, pretty vistas, diners and hikes.
For hiking, we recommend Mont Écho…
For dinner and the small town that goes with it, we recommend Knowlton (and dinner at Auberge Knowlton)…
And for wine, we recommend a trip to Dunham, to the Vignoble du Ruisseau…
