3 romanticroad trips totake on Valentine’s Day 2026, departing from Montreal
For sports enthusiasts…
We recommend spending the weekend at Mont Tremblant and staying in its village modeled after those in the Swiss Alps. Sun, skiing, and a night facing the mountains—it’s perfect as long as you don’t freeze your lips off kissing on the slopes.
The drive is quick and scenic, as Mont Tremblant is about an hour and 45 minutes from downtown Montreal.

- To ski like you’re in the Alps, grab your day passes for the Mont Tremblant alpine ski resort.
- For dinner with a taste of dairy farming and wooden clogs, head toLa Savoie restaurant, which serves fondues and pierrades (preferably after a hike). Where? 115Kandahar Road, Mont-Tremblant
- For lodging, choose a hotel with a view of one of the village’s most beautiful little streets: thePlace Saint-Bernard hotel. Where? 135Kandahar Road, Mont-Tremblant
For power couples…
There’s no need to exhaust yourself to enjoy a weekend of pure romance. We already work hard enough during the rest of the week.
Instead, you can hang out at the spa, get a massage, and relax by doing the hot-cold-rest circuit at your favorite spa. It’s also one of the most beautiful, and right next door there’s a lovely walk to take and an ultra-charming hotel so you don’t have to leave the mountains for the weekend.
Balnea is only an hour’s drive from downtown Montreal, and the road is beautiful and just exotic enough to make you feel like you’re far out in the countryside.

For the more poetic…
For couples whose favorite Christmas movie isLove, Actually andfor those who secretly love watchingHallmarkmoviesundera blanket with a cup of tea on long winter afternoons, we recommend taking aroad trip tothe Eastern Townships.
It’s a quick drive to the Townships from downtown Montreal—about an hour—and it’s also about an hour’s drive between the different villages. This isthe mostroad trip-yroad triponour list for Valentine’s Day 2026.
We start with a stop in the village of Knowlton Lac-Brome, which is an hour and 15 minutes’ drive from downtown Montreal.
When you arrive in Knowlton, you might think you’ve stumbled upon a miniatureQuebec version of Twin Peaks… Small stone churches, Victorian houses, and a small waterfall lined with large, ancient rocks.
This isone of the villages in the Eastern Townships that inspired novelist Louise Penny and her mysteries. For those who enjoy spending time (literary) inThree Pines, this is the perfect outing.
We feel a little jealous of the large houses hidden at the end of pine-lined driveways, and we stop at the edge of the lake to walk to the village, or just a few kilometers, in a silence we had almost forgotten. We pass dogs and locals cross-country skiing, and webreathe.
- For dinner, we stop at Auberge Knowlton for the best onion rings in the Eastern Townships and duck straight from the Canard Lac-Brome factory down the street. It’s warm and a little nostalgic, weathered by time and local village life. Where? aubergeknowlton.com
- For a stroll, we wander through the village streets. Here you’ll find some of Quebec’s finest antique and vintage shops, a cozy bookstore with everything you could want to read (in French and English), and an old-fashioned toy store. We forget the passing of time and browse at the village’s pace.

We continue with an afternoon spent in North Hatley, an hour’s drive from Knowlton.
North Hatley is a village on Lake Massawippi with a main street,a general store, and a café reminiscent of Sandra Bullock’s store inPractical Magic, where everyone knows each other.

North Hatley was established in 1803 and the municipality was founded in 1897. It is a village with very chic architecture —large houses withwraparound porches, white, green, and huge among the century-old trees. They were built by Americans (the American aristocracy, to be more precise), mainly from Virginia (West Virginia).
- For dinner and lodging, we stop at Manoir Hovey. It is a Relais Château with all the charm of the village and two Michelin keys, and is a hotel, restaurant, and spa. We love theTap Room andits mouthwatering burgers, the view of the lake, which is completely still in the evening, the sauna, and the history within the walls of thisold-fashioned institution.
- For a stroll, we visit the antique shops in North Hatley, known for their treasures and charm. Afterwards, we stop at the famous little bridge in the village and the gazebo to look at the frozen lake.
Happy Valentine’s Day and have a great road trip!
