Of all the villages in the Eastern Townships, North Hatley is one of the most charming. It’s the kind of village where Christmas decorations are the subject of official meetings, and where people debate the color and shape of the ribbons that will hang from the lampposts on the main street from September onwards.
It’s also a village that may look tiny when viewed from above, but it’s at the center of a municipality of farms, orchards, nurseries and ranches that come together in summer – and one day during the holiday season – for markets.
On December 6, 2025, it’s North Hatley’s annual outdoor Christmas market, and just a 1h40-minute drive from Montreal, it’s the perfect opportunity to tour the region and appreciate the immense beauty of winter in Quebec.
North Hatley, Eastern Townships
North Hatley is a village on Lake Massawippi with a main street, a general store and a café reminiscent of Sandra Bullock’s store in Practical Magic , where everyone knows everyone.
It’s one of the best-decorated holiday spots around, and in its simplicity, it has the charm of a book-length Christmas… and a café that makes matchas as good as any popup in Montreal.
You can stroll through the village on foot, visit the antique shops (there are three) and take a stroll through the Christmas market, set up all in wood in a riverside park.
Christmas Market
North Hatley’s annual outdoor Christmas market is December 6 this year. For one day, the holiday spirit will reach its peak in the village.
It’s a farmer’s market that will bring together local farmers and artisans, and while the list of exhibitors hasn’t been released yet, we know a few we hope to see there.
We hope to see the world’s softest tuques and mittens – made with wool from Domaine Alpagas Essencia and apple juice and cider from Le Gros Pierre orchard. We’d also like to bring Pur Délice honey and cheeses from local farms back to Montreal for our holiday table…
