What will we do when spring returns? Head to the countryside with our rain boots (the same ones we’ve had for 10 years, which are a bit embarrassing because of their condition but protect us from the mud) to see the first flowers sprouting from the ground? Discover a passion for balcony gardening? Sunbathe (in a coat, of course) sitting on the metal stairs?
We thought we still had a whole month to decide, but we’re going to get a taste of Montreal spring this weekend—March 7 and 8—and especially on Monday, March 9. It’s going to rain, it’s going to be warm, and there will even be sunshine. Real sunshine, the kind you can stop and feel on your skin.
20 degrees warmer and the weekend weather forecast
This morning, the corners of the windows are foggy, a sign that it’s cold on the streets of Montreal. Of course, we’re putting things into perspective because last week it was -20 degrees Celsius and this morning it’s -5 degrees. But we’ll still need gloves, a scarf, and a layer of Cicaplast to keep our noses from peeling in the shower tonight.
Today is Thursday, March 5. Temperatures will range from -6 to -3 degrees Celsius. In the coming days, they will rise;
- Friday, March 6—between -8 and 3 degrees Celsius
- Saturday, March 7—between 2 and 10 degrees Celsius
- Sunday, March 8—between 2 and 9 degrees Celsius
- Monday, March 9—between 1 and 15 degrees Celsius
Between this morning’s -5 degrees and Monday’s 15 degrees, we’ll have gained 20 degrees.
Ah! The warmth!
It won’t last (unfortunately), so we recommend taking full advantage of this warm spell. We’re going to;
- Hang out in the park pretending we saw a crocus—bonus points if we can convince a friend’s child that there really was a crocus, and that they just didn’t see it.
- Walk an hour to meet someone at a café (not on the terrace) because it’s spring and we’d rather die than take the subway.
- Buy a new umbrella because ours is broken.
- Look the sun straight in the eye and ask everyone, “I’m tanned, right?”
- Enjoy the smells of Montreal—if only for a moment.
