Saturday, April 25 – Sunday, May 10: Art Souterrain – a free art festival in Montreal’s underground

This is the 18th edition of the Art Souterrain art festival at the end of April 2026. The festival, one of the city’s least well-known but one of the most heavily attended, adorns the long, empty corridors of the seemingly endless tunnels beneath the city of Montreal every year.
From April 25 to May 10, 2026, some twenty works will be on display in Montreal’s “underground city,” starting at Place Ville-Marie. The art festival is completely free and open to the public. All you have to do is find an access point to the tunnels beneath the city streets and take a stroll…
Friday, May 1: Flower Moon

The month of May will begin with the Flower Moon. The May full moon will reach its peak very early, at 3:23 p.m. in the sky above Montreal, but it will also be visible after sunset.
The name “Flower Moon” was given to the May moon by the Algonquin Nation—as confirmed by Christina Ruddy of The Algonquin Way Cultural Centre in Pikwakanagan, Ontario.
This year, the May full moon coincides with the traditional Celtic festival celebrated by summer lovers around the world— May Day. It marks the midpoint between the spring equinox and the summer solstice.
Friday, May 1: Opening of “Objets Mous” by Double Entendre

Opening of the exhibition Objets Mous presented by the artistic collective Double Entendre on May 1 starting at 5 p.m. /
The exhibition is an exploration of the transformation of soft materials into figures and objects that challenge notions of creation and structure. It’s a group show worth seeing to take your mind off chairs and metal bells—because design can also be pure art.
Saturday, May 2: Shiba Gathering & Nihoncha Tea Festival / Japan Week

Shiba & Akita Gathering at 2 p.m. – dogs of the Japanese Shiba and Akita breeds and their owners are invited to gather on Saturday, and it’s going to be very, very kawaii.
Nihoncha Canada Tea Festival – for tea lovers, this is a major event. It’s a gathering of producers and drinkers of Japanese tea, held at the beautiful traditional tea house Charyu by Thés Guru.
Saturday, May 2: EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE (2022) at the Museum Cinema

The seventh art, the artist, migration, and identity are at the center of a new series of film screenings on the big screen at the Museum Cinema from April 17 to July 11, 2026.
A sort of Letterboxd for Indigenous and immigrant artists from Montreal, the EnraCINÉ series features 10 films presented by 10 artists. Writers, directors, illustrators, DJs, poets… It is through the trained and sophisticated eyes of these artists that we will be able to discover these films.
On Saturday, May 2, it’s EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE (2022) by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, presented by visual artist Felipe Arriagada-Nunez, aka Chien Champion
Saturday, May 2: BACA Indigenous Contemporary Art Biennial

The Indigenous Contemporary Art Biennial (BACA) is at Galerie Art Mûr in Montreal. This year, BACA is curated by Armando Perla & Michael Patten and will present works by some twenty Indigenous artists from around the world.

Sunday, May 10: Mother’s Day

This year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 10 in Quebec, and we all know that Mother’s Day is a serious matter.
Montreal will be teeming with bouquets of flowers wrapped in pastel crepe paper, spa days, restaurant reservations (made at the last minute by those who—horror of horrors—had forgotten), and, of course, all the moms—stars of the day and stars of our lives.
May 15–17: Foire Parallèle — independent artists’ fair

In May, a new fair places artists at the center of its business model and becomes the first fair for independent contemporary artists.
La Foire Parallèle aims to serve as a satellite to Art Plural, an institutional event designed to showcase the work of Montreal’s independent artists. La Foire Parallèle will take place from May 15 to 17, 2026, and is open to all art lovers—and collectors—right in the heart of downtown’s highly business-oriented Golden Square Mile.

This year, the F1 race runs from Friday, May 22, to Sunday , May 24, 2026, and it’s on Friday that many Quebecers will take the day off to spend the three-day weekend in Montreal.
The race takes place on Sunday, May 24 at 4 p.m., and the three days of the Grand Prix are organized as follows:
