This year marks the first Montreal Design Week. Open studios, exhibitions, installations, evening events, and a trade show—it will run for ten days, from April 28 through May 7, 2026.
Montreal has so much design and architecture that you can walk right past without noticing it because you’re arguing with your partner over text or because you’ve got your head tucked into your shoulders against the wind. Design Week is a chance to take a closer look at the city’s design and designers.
Our (almost entirely) free schedule for Design Week features an artistic mix of exhibitions, tours, and evening events.

From the Useful to the Sublime: 600 Years of Decorative Art and Design at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts /
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts has set up its design exhibition in the newly renovated Liliane and David M. Stewart Pavilion—a concrete and glass marvel we’d almost forgotten about.
The exhibition: a showcase of rediscovered treasures— vintage monochromes, intricate PVC chairs, portable televisions, and miraculous metal soup tureens.
The works and objects are arranged not by decade (the kind of organization you’d expect for a “classic” design exhibition) but by theme. Transportation, hygiene, office… The exhibition is “transcultural and transhistorical.”
The spotlight is on Quebec and Canadian designers and artists, including Julien Hébert and the original design of “Terre des Hommes,” the theme of Expo ’67 that continues to make Montreal one of the most fantastical cities in international design. In one of the videos projected onto the pavilion’s walls, he explains how he created it…
You must purchase a general admission ticket to enter the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
