On the streets of Montreal, the sun is gently melting the last patches of snow, and soon the first crocuses will appear along the curbs. It’s spring—finally!—and that also means it’s time for one of our favorite film festivals of the year: the Latin American Film Festival.
It runs from April 16 to 26, 2026, at the Cinéma du Parc.
Everything we’re going to see at the Montreal Latin American Film Festival
We love this festival because in Montreal—between retrospectives, new releases, and vintage screenings—we have access to so much cinema that sometimes we forget to look abroad for films.
During the festival’s ten days, we’ll see the best of Latin American cinema from the past year—films we might not have seen otherwise.
This year’s festival spotlight is on Argentina, and one of the films we’re really looking forward to seeing is *La Virgen de la Tosquera* by Argentine director Laura Casabé. It’s a coming-of-age film that turns into a sexy nightmare, and we’re already thinking of the short stories by Mariana Enriquez on which the film is based, as well as the Argentine cinematic style—highly sophisticated and haunted by an incredibly rich and mysterious folklore.

We’re really looking forward to seeing Vanilla by Mayra Hermosillo, a story of seven women trying to save the house where they live, seen through the eyes of an eight-year-old girl in the 1980s.

We’re also looking forward to seeing the Peruvian film *Vino La Noche*, about soldiers in the air force and their transformation from young recruits into hardened operators.

The film Perros by Uruguayan director Gerardo Minutti, a funny and cruel successor to Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite , follows a family hired by wealthy homeowners to look after their house—and their dog—for the summer.
