Montreal is shivering under a light white coat and the sun is setting earlier and earlier. We were forced to swap our patent shoes and stiletto boots for boots with the little studs underneath. We feared, and rightly so, that our most stylish pair of shoes would be shredded by the gravel and chemical salt of Montreal streets.
But even as we approach the longest night of the year, Montreal is also caught up in the spirit of the holiday season: holiday markets, Christmas trees, The Nutcracker…
And, after a long day at work, we’ve earned the right to a seasonal sweet treat , haven’t we?
Miracle on Saint-Paul
For a themed cocktail in a bar decorated like the living room of a childless couple in an 80s Christmas movie, we know where to go.

At Miracle sur Saint-Paul (a play on words with Miracle sur la 34ème rue), an ephemeral cocktail bar on the street in Montreal’s Old Port, the holiday spirit is sickening-and we love it.
The waiters are dressed in Christmas pyjamas, the ceiling is covered in garlands of lights and the musical ambience is seasonal. Drinks are available;
- a Christmaspolitan (vodka, elderflower, dry vermouth, spiced cranberry sauce, lime, rosemary, absinthe)
- a Jingle Balls Nog (cognac, port, almond milk, cream, egg, vanilla, nutmeg)
- Run Run Reindeer (mulled wine reduction, prosecco, lemon, bitters)
- Snowball Old Fashioned (rye whiskey, gingerbread syrup, mugwort bitters, orange blossom water)
- Silent Night – alcohol-free (sour cherry, chocolate, orange acid, soda)
- Mellow Mouse – alcohol-free (apple, strawberry, grapefruit, lemon, soda)

Cocktails are served in holiday glasses and mugs , and you can even take one home. It’s also perfect for our beer-drinking cousin, or a Secret Santa from the office.
