In Montreal, spring is a bit of a confusing time, and we’ll be ruining our littlekitten heels inthe cracks of the concrete sidewalks until May. But the mix of snow, rain, and wind, along with the mild temperatures of the last few days—which leave our cheeks red and our hair wet—is perfect for growing flowers.
Every year in Montreal, an event signals that spring is here to stay, and the announcement comes with a thousand nearly identical photos of influencers in cottagecore dresses in the middle of a field. It’s the “u-pick tulips” farm in Laval, where 800,000 tulips are quietly blooming right now, and they’ve just announced their 2026 season.
The season, which doesn’t yet have a set date, usually begins around Mother’s Day—this year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
A passion for tulips, the colors of spring, and the rules to follow when picking your own bouquet
The U-Pick Tulip fields are vast expanses of vibrant flowers (red, purple, pink, yellow, orange tulips…) that draweveryone in. Seriously, we can’t recommend enough that you buy your tickets in advance —and that’s why the season is announced a month before the tulips are ready.
There arethe semi-professional photographers, theInsta-models andtheir girl.boyfriends who are semi-amateur photographers, those who are going to host a dinner party and will have the prettiest tulips in the neighborhood, those who brought their moms, and those taking deep breaths—full of hope that a stroll through the tulip fields will speed up thespring glowof skin that hasn’t seen the sun in six months.
Bonus for those who do a little dance between the rows of flowers because it’s spring! It’s spring!
Before the season begins, the tulip field has a few guidelines to keep in mind:
- The length of the season is unpredictable, as it depends on the weather.
- Pets and strollersare not allowed on the premises.
- During the season, we’reopen 7 days a week, rain or shine.
- Portable restroomsand apicnic areaare available on site.
- Parking is free.
- Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be exchangedfor a later season.
- Special Mother’s Day ticketswill be available if we’re open for the occasion.
- You canpick the tulips, but not the bulbs—if they come out, we keep them.
