Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement—not a weather alert, just a heads-up about the weather. Technically, it’s a recommendation to wear crampons tomorrow morning, Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
In the Special Weather Bulletin for March 30 and 31, 2026, Environment Canada forecasts “rain or freezing rain ending by midday.” There will also be “northeasterly winds of 30 km/h with gusts to 50.” Temperatures will be just slightly above freezing.
Warning! A few drops of freezing rain are forecast for Tuesday, March 31…
Freezing rain is forecast for Tuesday, March 31, in the morning and overnight from Tuesday, March 31, to Wednesday, April 1.
Freezing rain is like a dirty word in Quebec—or a mystical call to the worst storms of our childhood, the most devastating ones.
Freezing rain is rain that remains liquid below the freezing point (zero degrees Celsius) due to the collision of a mass of warm, moist air with a cold front. When this rain comes into contact with an object, it turns to ice. And the dreaded black ice forms.
Fortunately,this ice—which will accumulate to 5 to 10 millimeters if it’s cold enough—should melt very quickly because temperatures are above freezing this week.
And a few more drops…
On Wednesday, April 1, it will be a little warmer—and the accumulated ice will melt very quickly, we hope. On April 2, 3, 4, and 5, temperatures will become even more spring-like, with highs of 10 and 15 degrees Celsius.
For the spring long weekend, our weather forecast is here;
On Friday, April 3, it will be sunny and 3 degrees Celsius (but the wind chill will make it feel like zero). Humidity will be 51%, and at night, it will be -3 degrees Celsius.
On Saturday, April 4, it will be 5 degrees Celsius with bright sunshine—and we’ll get 13 hours of sunshine during the day. There won’t be much wind, and the sky will cloud over in the evening as the temperature drops to -1 degree Celsius.
On Sunday, April 5, it will be 8 degrees Celsius, but it will rain (lightly) all day. It will be the perfect day to break out your rain boots and little basket and go play outside in the puddles.
On Monday, April 6, it will be 9 degrees Celsius and it will rain all day; nearly 5 mm of precipitation is expected. It will be very humid: humidity will rise from 57% to 86% in the evening. In addition to boots, we recommend a poncho and hot tea when you get home, to round out the weekend nicely.
