Even if winter 2025-2026 is already long (and we have until April), it’s still one of the most beautiful seasons in Quebec. And, of course, we need all that snow to go skiing.
Our favorite winter ski resort not too far from Montreal is Mont Sutton. For one thing, it’s not too far – between 1h30 and 2h drive, depending on traffic. The mountain is neither too small nor too big, and there’s something for both the more athletic and those who just want to make 3 runs and drink hot chocolate by the fire afterwards.
What’s more, we love strolling through the village of Sutton, which is very small-town Americana , with its cafés, little boutiques and farm-to-table restaurants.
Ski, snow, sun
1h30-2h drive from Montreal, Mont Sutton is the mountain where many Montrealers learned to ski, where winter weekends were spent by the fire in the chalets with mittens on the corner of the stove…
Mont Sutton is renowned for its glades, and for its trails that range from gentle to downright impossible (for those who are not afraid of the cold). The mountain is small enough to go from one trail to the next without spending all day on it, but big enough to never get bored.
There are lessons for kids and for those who are a little scared on skis at the start of the season too – just in case…
And at Sutton, it’s not just the mountains that are worthy of a Christmas movie, where the characters fall in love under the heavy branches of a snow-covered fir tree …

Where? Mont Sutton, 67 Maple Street, Sutton

A movie village
Sutton is a village with a road leading up to the ski resort where everyone learned to ski, a main street lined with colorful American-style wooden houses with wrap-around porches, diners and a magical spring just outside town.
In short, Sutton is a village that exudes childhood memories and the simple joy of winter vacations.
Happy winter!
