With March comes spring, melting snow (we hope…) and the sugaring-off season!
An unmissable tradition of spring in Quebec is going to the sugar shack. Nostalgic as it sounds, it’s a delicious springtime activity for families, friends and lovers alike.
You don’t have to go far to enjoy the maple groves, because Montreal offers many sugar shack feasts in its best restaurants, and cabins on the edge of town present an opportunity to get out of the urban center and breathe a little fresh air… while enjoying taffy on snow, pea soup and ears of crisse, of course.
Here are our suggestions for the best places to get your fill in Montreal and the surrounding region.
1 Cabane Panache
From March 20 to 23, rue Wellington is transformed into an urban sugar shack!
For 4 days, live music, taffy on snow, kiosks from Verdun’s best bars and restaurants, and entertainment for the whole family await you.
You won’t want to miss this free celebration of spring, which will have the South West buzzing during the sugaring-off season.

2.the Richmond
The fabulous restaurant Le Richmond offers a maple brunch reminiscent of the sugar shacks of yesteryear, in the heart of Griffintown.
On March 29 and 30, the restaurant transforms itself into an urban sugar shack.
There’ll be a maple-based menu, a visit to Serge the llama and his farm friends on the terrace set up for the occasion, and maple taffy on snow…
The meal is $80 for adults and $33 for children. Reservations are required. To reserve your place, click here.
3.Caribou Gourmand
Starting March 14, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, join us at Caribou Gourmand for an indulgent Sugar Shack Brunch!
Start with Mimosa d’la Cabane or Bière du Temps des Sucres, and continue with sugar shack classics (baked beans, potatoes, apple and maple sausages) in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

4 Au pied de cochon
Celebrated Quebec chef Martin Picard runs one of the province’s most renowned sugar shacks.
This year, all reservations for his sugar shack are full, but he’s offering a gargantuan feast to take home.
The menu includes such delights as crisse ears, maple ham roast and seafood bines. Many menu items can also be purchased separately, such as maple panettone.
5 La Sucrerie de la Montagne
A staple of the sugaring-off experience, the Sucrerie de la Montagne invites you to celebrate the season in style!
In addition to a traditional feast, you’ll enjoy a variety of on-site activities, including a horse-drawn sleigh ride, musical entertainment, a general store and taffy on snow, made the authentic way on a boiler.

6 Labonté de la pomme
We visit the Cabane à Pommes on this estate just 45 minutes from Montreal.
It’s in Oka, and this unique sugar shack is absolutely worth the detour!
With its “terre à table” menu, you’ll have the chance to savor the rich flavors of our region.
The meal is offered in three formulas: dining room, on the go, or a feast to take home. You can also hike one of their trails, pick your own maple water, learn more about syrup-making and visit the general store.
