While we’re waiting for spring, it’s the most important mid-season of the year in Montreal: Les Sucres. If we don’t have time to visit one of the many sugar shacks in the region, we’ll at least celebrate at the nostalgic Cabane Panache festival.
From March 20 to 23, 2025, rue Wellington in Verdun will be the scene of a veritable sugar fair. Sugar addicts will be treated to a 100% sugar shack experience right in the heart of the metropolis. A plunge into the terroir, with an urban twist, that will delight the region’s biggest sugar shacks.
What’s for dinner? Because sugar is serious business in Quebec!
We want to eat pea soup, Christ’s ears, bacon, beer, anything with maple in it, and we want the wooden taffy sticks of our childhood and to cover the inside of our mouths with sugar.
The festival will feature classics-pea soup, ham in syrup, maple taffy on snow-but also modernized and revisited versions of classic sugar shack dishes in the form of egg-and-bacon-and-potato platters, poutine with foie gras, tacos and burgers (and more).
An injection of tradition
Cabane Panache isn’t just a culinary festival. Because sugar shacks are also about atmosphere…
Rue Wellington will vibrate to the sound of folk music, inviting visitors to sway to the lively rhythm. With local beverages and liqueurs to sip on, the atmosphere will be both festive and convivial. Wooden spoons and foot tapping are on the program to guarantee a moment of pure pleasure – and plenty of nostalgia.
You’ll be able to learn about, or just admire, traditional candle and wooden mallet making…
The artists here
Every day of the festival will feature authentic performances by local artists. Spoons, traditional and rock artists on the mobile Ici Pneu Touchette stage, the Fermières du Québec association, local crafts… This is your chance to cheer on local artists.
