We’ll have to invest in a cap (from the Canadiens, perhaps?) that we’ll wrap around our heads with a scarf or two until spring, which will be… in April? Stylish, yes, but not on the terrace for another 7 weeks.
This week, the weather is mild and we’re having a ball. The snow is melting on the sidewalks (finally!) and we can release the tension in our shoulders and hang outside to raise our faces to the sky. Unfortunately, it’s raining, but you can’t have everything. It’s a historic thaw, according to Meteo Media, and the snow-rain mix will quickly turn to cold snow towards the end of the week.
This weekend, it’s back to winter. Whether you’re on skis, in line to find the best local cap to stand out from your friends, or outside with the kids to play in the snow, we’ re going to make the most of the end of winter, whatever the cost.
And what about spring?
The Farmer’s Almanac predicts that this year’s winter will last a long, long time… But with the preview of spring’s gentle breeze on our face today, we want dates.
March, which normally brings the last cold snap of the season around the 1st of the month, is a little behind previous years, with a mild spell arriving in the second half of March. The last snowstorm of the year is expected -possibly, it’s the weather, after all- at the very end of the month.
April will start with below-normal temperatures, BUT in the second half of the month the skies will be clear and temperatures will rise slowly, bringing with them spring.
And in the meantime?
No drama here, because in Montreal we’re used to long, never-ending winters. If you’re not going on vacation in the sun during Spring Break, you can still travel with Montreal’s cultural activities-and tweed keeps you warm. If you can’t stand Montreal in winter, take a daytrip to one of the region’s most beautiful villages!
Cheer up, Montreal!
