It’s a break, but that doesn’t mean we’ll spend the week watching cartoons on TV, sitting on the sofa eating Froot Loops – and neither will our kids. A mix of activities and relaxation is what we’re looking for during Spring Break, and if the kids discover a passion for art or ethnology, well that’s even better!
What are we going to do as a family this Spring Break?
1.LUMINO at the Quartier des Spectacles
from February 27th to March 9th
A little light therapy for the kids, and an introduction to art installations (videoprojections, performances, sculptural installations) for the whole family! Find out more here.
2.Building Laws at the CCA
on March 6th
For little Lego fans and future architects, the Canadian Centre for Architecture is offering a half-day of activities for children aged 7 to 12 around the “Building Laws” exhibit with a visit, creative activities and readings about architecture that thwarts the laws of classical architecture to create greener cities. 3.The Montreal International Children’s Film Festival (FIFEM)
from March 1st to March 9th
The 28th edition of this festival will feature feature-length films, Canadian and international animated shorts, a mini-cinema program for ages 3 and up, and special activities with actors from Aventure du monde des mondes and Les Grabouilles. It’s for big movie fans and little ones too!
Family passports are $60 and one-way tickets are $12.
4.In the Tropical Rainforest
At the Biodôme, there’s a new pair of Bearded Tamarins in the rainforest, and the humidity, bird calls and big-leaf smells turn the visit into a total expedition for curious kids! To be followed by a treasure-hunting film on the way home…
5.The Botanical (Winter) Garden
If you prefer to enjoy the cold and sunshine before the end of winter, the Jardin Botanique has a trail where children hunt for red hazelnuts with a giddy little squirrel, through nature and with both feet in the snow…
6.Circus arts and snow at La TOHU
La TOHU’s spring break program is packed. Lunchtime storytelling for the little ones, circus classes, Finnish bowling, kite flying, creative outdoor activities… It’s the perfect way to get kids moving and developing their creativity.
7.Montreal Memory Centre (MEM)
From March 1st to March 9th
At the Centre des Mémoires Montréalaises (MEM), children can do creative activities and discover the museum without their parents (phew!) between 2 and 4 pm. Every day except Monday, March 3.
8.Parc Jean Drapeau
The skating trail at Parc Jean Drapeau is the perfect outing at sunset – which is still (too) early, with groovy music, strings of lights and a dramatic view of Montreal’s skyscrapers.
Have a great spring break!
