but we weren’t expecting the New Year’s snowstorm-weather-bomb-ice-rain-blizzard combo. We’re brave.
Rain, wind and above-zero temperatures
This morning, Monday, January 5, it’s cold – not the -23 degrees celsius of the weekend, but a seasonable -14. Humidity is at 85%, so we feel the cold right down to the bottom of our boots. We’re not complaining too much, as is to be expected for January in Montreal.
Tomorrow, Tuesday January 6 – Epiphany Day – temperatures rise a few degrees, but we’re not putting our toques away. A big slice of galette des rois will be semi-earned.
From Wednesday January 7 onwards, the mercury rises very, very high, dipping to zero degrees Celsius by evening. The patches of ice that sporadically appear on the sidewalks will disappear. That alone is a good thing.
But, of course, such a drastic change in temperature (in three days, we’ll have gained 20 degrees) will bring strong, gusty winds, humidity and rain.
