Earth Hour will be Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Montreal…
We’re encouraged to turn off all non-essential lights in the city (Montreal West has pledged to do so, but it’s more an event that affects individuals – everyone participates by turning off lights in their homes) for one hour.
It’s a symbolic gesture, an eco-friendly gesture, and a way of getting back on Mother Nature’s good side – which we mustn’t forget, and which we can all help by making small gestures that respect and do good for the planet.
What is Earth Hour?
It takes place all over the world, and has been an annual event since 2007.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) started the movement in Sydney, Australia, to raise awareness of the loss of biodiversity and animal habitats, as well as the climate crisis and its devastating effects on our planet.
It’s a movement and a symbolic gesture, but one that brings together all those who want to do more to counter the climate crisis, and who want to live more in harmony with the planet, nature and ecology.
Why do we turn out the lights?
It’s not the only thing we do, but if everyone turns off the lights, it’s a very striking visual. Above all, it’s an hour when you can join WWF’s Earth Hour movement, when you can research how you can get involved locally or globally for biodiversity, ecology and the planet.
It’s a movement that’s very active in schools, and students and their teachers are invited to register on the WWF website, to take part and campaign for the event.
So turn off your lights, put on your cold machine, and search online for eco events in your neighborhood or city, because it’s the little things – if everyone does them – that help our planet.
Let’s turn it all off!
