You may love a Quebec TV series (with a cup of tea at home) or a bit of reality TV (with a cocktail, and OD Chypre exclusively), but when you live in Montreal you also have privileged access to the best in international cinema….
Between genre film festivals and French-language films, Canadian, international, activist or comedy, or animated… We’ve got access to a pretty exceptional film catalog.
This autumn, the Cinéma du Parc is hosting the 19th edition of the Montreal Brazilian Film Festival, and will be screening 10 films from October 24 to 30.
Brazilian Film Festival – the program
Between October 24 and 30, 10 films by Brazilian auteurs and directors will be presented at the Cinéma du Parc, fresh from the world’s biggest film festivals.
We’re extremely lucky to be able to see them so early – without having to wait for streamers to distribute them in the next few years…
90 Decibels
The film follows a young lawyer who, after a car accident, gradually loses her hearing – and that’s hard to swallow.
Directed by Fellipe Barbosa and starring Benedita Casé Zerbini, Leandro Ramos, Mauricio Destri and Pedro Henrique França.
The Secret Agent – O Agente Secreto
This is the film for which actor Wagner Moura won the Prix d’interprétation masculine and for which Kleber Mendonça Filho won the Prix de la mise en scène at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The film follows a mysterious man trying to put his life back together during Rio carnival in the late 70s.
Mauricio de Sousa, the film
The film follows cult cartoonist and animator Mauricio de Sousa, from his childhood and through his creative work.
The film is directed by Pedro Vasconselos.
The wolf and the swans – Um lobo entre os cisnes
The film is inspired by the life of dancer Thiago Soares. It follows a young boy from the suburbs of Rio who decides to leave hip hop behind and take up classical ballet – even dancing at London’s Royal Ballet.
The film is directed by Marcos Schechtman and Helena Varvaki, with Mattheus Abreu in the lead role.
Vitòria
The film, directed by Andrucha Waddington and starring Oscar-nominated Fernanda Montenegro in the eponymous role, is inspired by the true story of a retired Rio de Janeiro woman who helped break up a gang of drug dealers by filming them from her apartment.
