At the end of August, as we return from vacation, shoulders golden, feed full of images of mountains, beaches and parties, we’ll find ourselves back in Montreal –still lookingelsewhere.
And that’s wonderful, because in the city – where we have access to everything we could ever dream of ( pad thai delivered at 2 a.m., all the culture we can consume, all the vintage we want, all the matcha we can drink)- we sometimes forget that openness to the world is one of our greatest privileges and our greatest strengths.
From August 22 to 24, it’s the Festival International du Film de Montréal.
It’s the Montreal festival that presents the most international films with a poetic look at the world and its issues. There will be discussions, an international film market, and feature-length fiction and documentary films presented over the 3 days of the festival at the Old Port of Montreal.
The program
The festival’s mission is to “shape global change through film”, and its program reflects its desire to bring together filmmakers and social change enthusiasts for 3 days, in the large glass structure of the Science Centre, in the Old Port of Montreal.
35 films from 25 countries will be presented – many of them world and Canadian premieres. There will be shorts, features, documentaries and animated films.
Several conferences on filmmaking, production and development focused on global issues will also be presented during the afternoons of the festival.
Practical info
In addition to screenings and conferences, you’ll be able to take part in an animated mini-film project with the festival mascot, Popi the popcorn, give your opinion on the films in a confessional and attend workshops.
