The most Montreal thing you can do this January 2026 is dog face down in 40cm of powder snow, at -15 degrees celsius – and all in padded leggings and with a truly nonchalant attitude.
Not only is it good for the muscles, it ‘s (literally) refreshing for the mind and, frankly, isn’t that what we need to get motivated to fulfill all our good resolutions this year?
During the coldest winter months, we’ll be able to -for free- do yoga in the snow in the parks of the very cool Plateau Mont-Royal, and maybe find a community to motivate ourselves with this year…

POP Spirit and yoga snow
POP Spirit is a yoga studio that also organizes sports and spiritual retreats that are good for body and mind. Like Erika Drolet’s Salty Souls and its retreats for girls who want to learn to surf, POP Spirit creates a community cemented in a spirit of self-improvement.
Since 2010, the studio has been organizing on-the-water yoga retreats, courses and getaways, visits to the St. Lawrence whales and healing workshops. In 2026, we could be zen, couldn’t we?
POP Spirit is the pioneer of snow yoga – or Snowya – in Quebec. It’s a yoga class that’s literally in the snow, so it’s pretty simple. However, the cold changes things a bit. Among other things, the studio recommends wearing warm clothes, a small blanket and bringing a thermos of hot tea;
- Warm clothing
- Gloves or mittens
- Socks and boots to keep feet warm
- Yoga mat
- Small blanket to place on your yoga mat for floor postures (yoga mats tend to get cold and stiff in the snow)
- Hot beverage (hot water, tea, etc.) to warm you up if needed
- Handkerchiefs
It’s been twelve years since POP brought snow yoga to Montreal, and every year the activity grows in popularity.
Classes, which will be held in three Plateau Mont-Royal parks between January 17 and March 7, 2026, are free, but online registration is required on the POP Spirit website.
