After YATAI and POCHA, the architects of the region’s biggest Asian cultural and gastronomic markets -ASIE ASIE- are preparing four days of ramen.
It’s going to be from August 28 to 31, it’s going to transport us to a Japanese street market, and it’s called RAMEN RAMEN.
STREET RAMEN RAMEN
Ramen, ラーメン in Japanese, is a Japanese recipe inspired by Chinese cuisine, but adapted to Japanese tastes. It’s a noodle soup with a broth base, topped with meat, eggs, fish or tofu – and a variety of vegetables. The recipe, imported from China in the 19th century, is highly adaptable, and there’s a ramen to suit every taste.
There’s Tokyo Ramen, Shoyu Ramen, Shio Ramen, Katsura Ramen…
The festival will recreate a Japanese street market, where ramen always has a special place, and it will be the biggest of its kind in Quebec. In Montreal, we love ramen, and there are so many delicious restaurants in town. You’ll be able to sample ramen – traditional, new age, fusion or gourmet – from a whole host of Montreal restaurants, which will be brought together in a sort of ephemeral “ramen street”.
“Ramen, Japan’s most popular hobby, has overtaken sushi among international foodies in terms of popularity and coolness. In recent years, we’ve seen the quality of the ramen on offer grow by leaps and bounds in many cities around the world, supported by a growing group of enthusiasts. RAMEN RAMEN is a celebration of this new reign and a desire to encourage the development of ramen offerings outside Japan.” – Thien Vu Dang, co-director of RAMEN RAMEN
