In Quebec, we know that the weather is intense – very hot, very cold, windy, icy – and secretly, we greatly appreciate the violence of the elements, because after walking across Montreal during a blizzard, we’ve earned the right to feel like cowboys.
For those who’ve just arrived in Montreal, you’ll see. For the rest of us, we understand each other. Some love it, some hate it and fly to Florida or Punta Cana every chance they get. Some complain about summer, forest fires and the city’s asphalt-trash-construction smell. The sweetest season of the year – and we all agree – is autumn.
And we’re in luck: autumn 2025 is looking pretty good… Here’s what we know;
“Almanac?
For our information, we went to theFarmer‘s Almanac, because to find out what the weather will be like in the next few months, it’s the best source to refer to.
An almanac is a “popular book published each year and containing, with a calendar, scientific or practical information”, according to the Larousse online dictionary.
Almanacs have medieval origins in their present form. They also existed in Ancient Rome, the Middle East (the word has Arabic origins) and Russia.
Quebec has had an almanac since 1915, the Almanach du Peuple, which doesn’t seem to exist anymore.
Finally, we’ve just learned that it’s apparently pronounced al-ma-na on its own, with the “k” sound to be used only in conjunction with another word…
Farmer’s Almanac predictions for Autumn 2025
Autumn 2025 officially begins on September 22. This year, autumn is going to be truly autumnal.
The Farmer’s Almanac predicts a restless autumn with heavy thunderstorms during October (with rain, but no more than usual), with sunny days and still plenty of dark, stormy days.
For the spooky season, we’ll be spending long afternoons watching movies under the comforter with a pumpkin spice latte…
We’ll be able to put on our best looks inspired by London romantic comedies; this autumn we’ll be frazzled english woman, with our hair blowing in the wind and running from one café to another…
Autumn will be cool, with temperatures a few degrees below seasonal norms, according to Farmer’s Alamanac, but October is described as “pleasant” and “mild”, so we’ll have to make the most of the spooky season …
After that, in November, winter will set in… with some snow and cold winds. It might even snow for Halloween?
In any case, we’re going to go apple picking, stroll around town with a cup of coffee (bundled up) and enjoy the darker days of the year before the Christmas vacations…
Looking forward to fall 2025 in Montreal!
