Montreal summers are muggy, hot, and bright, and smell like scorched asphalt, freshly cut grass, and barbecues. It’s the season that turns the city into a mecca for cool, alternative culture, and music. In the summer, Montreal has its own mixtape.
Every park has at least one impromptu DJ (who may or may not be playing their own music), musicians play guitar on the small iron staircases when it’s hot, and we go from festival to festival —jazz, techno, rock, Afrobeats.
There’s music in the streets almost all the time, and you can dance and sing around town all season long. Plus, a lot of events and concerts are free.

One of our summer favorites isPlazapalooza—half emerging music festival, halfblock party. In 2026, it’s the fourth edition, and this year it runs for four days, from Thursday, July 9, to Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Music is a serious business during Plazapalooza.Each day is dedicated to a different music genre, and while we don’t know all the bands that will be playing, we go to discover them.

On Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., there will be line dancing classes for everyone. There will also be games and face painting for kids,livepiano musicinthe street, booths, and a great atmosphere.
The park in the middle of ROYALMOUNT will come alive with music from DJs every Saturday in July 2026.

Free music echoes through Montreal’s parks all summer long.
The Campbell Concerts series features 21 free concerts in the parks and neighborhoods of the Island of Montreal from June 11 to August 27, 2026, with a varied lineup including marching bands, classical music, R&B, soul, jazz, salsa, and electronic music. The Montreal Classical Orchestra will perform on August 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Georges-Saint-Pierre Park to celebrate NDG’s 100th anniversary.

It’s not official, but it’s an open secret in Montreal—every Sunday, there are the Mont-Royal drum circles, and whether you’re having a picnic or just want to walk barefoot on the grass after a well-deserved lie-in, it’s the best place to go.
