It’s crazy the dichotomy of Montreal (and Montrealers), because in winter we spend as little time as possible on the city’s gridded streets – because of the wind, the snow, the ice, plus we’re cold and it’s dark – and on the other hand, in summer, every minute spent indoors is a priesthood.
Do you break a sweat as soon as you step outside? Yes, but is air-conditioning any good? That depends on who you ask.
In any case, even if we have to work (unfortunately, we don’t have summers off like we did when we were at school, except maybe for the teachers, and thank goodness for them), we still want to spend every possible second outside, in the sun, in the breeze, in the grass. Briefcases should be full of exotic fruit and sun cream. In a perfect world…
Enter our new favorite Tuesday lunchtime activity: yoga at Aire Commune.
Not too long, not too strenuous, a spray of hypochlorous acid and a bottle of water (reusable) and we’re back to work, but with an injection of sunshine that’ll keep us going until the evening when we can – at last!
Aire Commune
Aire Commune has been a coworking and outdoor event space in Montreal since 2017, and this summer’s lineup is hot, hot, hot (and just the way we like it -outdoors). There are concerts, parties, and on Tuesday lunchtimes, free yoga classes…
Thursday evenings are dj sets, entertainment and cocktails. It’s on the Esplanade Louvain, a space created by Aire Commune, SDC District Central and Îlot 84. During the day, it’s an outdoor workspace, and in the evening it’s a popular summer event venue.
Lunchtime yoga
All summer long, on Tuesday lunchtimes, you’ll be able to do yoga at Aire Commune (on the Esplanade Louvain) with a 45-minute class (just long enough to get you stretched out, but not so long that you’re exhausted and take a nap on the way back to the office).
Yoga classes are free, but you have to register beforehand on the Aire Commune website, and they’re presented by one of our favorite spas, Strøm Spa Nordique.
Yoga is good for breathing, relaxing your shoulder muscles after a meeting where you were told you weren’t working hard enough, and soaking up the sun’s rays without just eating a salad out of a plastic bowl on a picnic table with colleagues desperate to get into the shade.
You need to bring your water bottle (reusable), your sun cream (mineral) and your yoga mat (wicker for the coolest girl we’ll see at the yoga lunch, foam for the others).
