During the summer season, Montreal is world-renowned for its many arteries, which become pedestrianized. We beat the pavement without cars -possibly in gougounes- under the sun and stopping as often as possible at terraces…
As part of a City of Montreal initiative that began in 2023, these streets will be pedestrianized during the summer season, and an investment of $12 million has been earmarked for their long-term development.
Here’s the list of streets to visit this year, when they’ll be open, and what to do once you’re there!
1 Wellington Street
This Verdun pedestrian street has been named the best in the world…
There are terraces on both sides of the sidewalk, small spaces for relaxation, green spaces, flowers, sandboxes – in short, a perfect summer.
Where? Between 6th Avenue and rue Régina
When? June 2 to September 19

2 Avenue du Mont-Royal
Avenue du Mont-Royal will be open to pedestrians. From May 29, there will be 2km of urban recreation areas and community events to discover in the heart of one of Montreal’s most popular thoroughfares.
Where? Avenue Mont-Royal, from Saint-Laurent to De Lorimier
When? from Saint-Laurent to Saint-Denis, May 26 to October 16/ from Saint-Denis to De Lorimier, May 26 to September 4

3 Duluth Avenue East
Avenue Duluth is the best way to cross the chic Plateau Mont-Royal.
In addition to the many restaurants, cafés and terraces that line the street, several activities are planned to promote urban agriculture and the arts.
Where? Between boulevard Saint-Laurent and rue Saint-Hubert

4 Bernard Avenue
Avenue Bernard stretches under tall trees, between small buildings with imposing architecture. It’s a real crowd-pleaser, especially when you’re lucky enough to stroll along one of the huge street terraces of the restaurants that line Bernard.
This summer, we’ll be taking a stroll through Outremont to admire the urban installations, art and singular landscape of this unique little neighborhood.
Where? Between Wiseman and Bloomfield avenues
When? May 24 to September 21

5.rue De Castelnau
This summer, the beautiful rue de Castelnau Est continues to be a cultural landmark for the Villeray neighborhood.
An open-air exhibition entitled“Jeux de Paysages” will embellish the common spaces, and there will also be shaded areas to relax and terraces as far as the eye can see. It’s a golden opportunity to take part in an increasingly vibrant neighbourhood life.

6 Promenade Ontario
This year, one kilometer of Ontario Street will be pedestrianized, from Darling Street to Pie-IX Boulevard.
Features include terraces, greenery and relaxation facilities. The street will also be animated every week from Thursday to Sunday, with free performances by circus artists, musical performances and more…

7 Sainte-Catherine Street East
In the heart of the Village, this is Montreal’s summer street .
You need to take at least one stroll through this lively neighborhood to appreciate the intersection of music, neighborhood life and the arts.
Some forty terraces, restaurants, bars and activities await you to celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community. And it’s the most photographed street of the summer, with its sky of colorful paper globes forming the city’s longest rainbow…

8 Rues Saint-Denis and Émery
Concerts, festive 5 à 7s, street shows… Saint-Denis and Émery streets, in the heart of the Quartier Latin, will be alive with cultural activities and installations.
Where? Between Sherbrooke and Sainte-Catherine streets, and between Saint-Denis and Sanguinet streets.
When? June 14 to September 15
