Although Montreal summers are quite legendary (some would say infamous), many Montrealers and visitors alike cite the holiday season as their favorite time to spend a weekend (or more) in the region.
Quebec’s fir forests and small mountains are covered in a heavy blanket of white, the colorful buildings with wraparound country porches look like dollhouses, the air always smells a little of wood fire…
It’s a time of year that’s naturally ultra-charming and lends itself to nostalgia and long walks without telephones, hours of fireside reading and board games.
In this spirit, we’re going to visit a traditional market not far from Montreal, open throughout December…

The Longueuil Christmas and Traditions Market
Longueuil’s Christmas market is based on the traditions and talents of Quebec artisans – so you can enjoy their work, store for Christmas gifts and watch demonstrations of local craftsmanship.

The highlight of the market is sawing your own centerpiece from a log using a godendard. There will also be workshops to create Christmas ornaments, songs, face painting and films for children, as well as Quebec winter legends…
And, of course, there’ll be mulled wine, pretzels and a chance to meet Santa Claus!
