One of the most beautiful parts of Quebec in summer is the Eastern Townships – Montrealers go there for its lakes (which are numerous and lined with sandy beaches), for its small mountains (to climb) and for its fields and vineyards (to taste).
The region is agricultural and its villages were built by English Loyalists – you can see this in the architecture of square houses with wrap-around porches, red brick and village main streets lined with inns and general stores.
In winter, the fields and country roads of the Eastern Townships fall asleep, covered in a thick blanket of snow, and the villages light up with garlands of colorful bulbs to celebrate the end-of-year festivities.
In December, one of the most beautiful villages in the area organizes a Christmas market that’s a little different from the others in the region – because it’s a night market…
Knowlton (Brome Lake)
When you arrive in Knowlton, you’re not sure you’re not in a Quebec micro Twin Peaks … Small stone churches, Victorian houses, and a small waterfall lined with large millennial rocks.
With its gazebo, small waterfall, inn and tiny downtown, the village of Knowlton is reminiscent of a movie set, and for the holidays, the effect is heightened by its Christmas decorations.
Midnight Madness
On December 13, 2025, Knowlton’s Christmas market will light up the town – Midnight Madness, from 5 p.m. to midnight. We’ll be able to eat sausages and mulled wine, buy Christmas gifts from local artisans and see shows in the dark, on snow…
We’re promised entertainment by artists dressed in lights, music, braziers, and plenty of hot chocolate to keep us warm. It’s the perfect Christmas market for night owls and for those who also celebrate the winter solstice on December 21…
