It’s the end of summer—fall officially begins on September 22—and the nights are getting cooler and cooler in Quebec. It’s officially mushroom season.
To celebrate, we recommend stopping by the FUNGI FEST in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue this weekend, with a basket tucked under your arm and a small notebook to take notes. Mushrooms are serious business.
By car, the village of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue is about a 40-minute drive from downtown. You can also get there without a car by taking EXO train line 11—from downtown, the trip takes about an hour.

FUNGI FEST
For those who love mushrooms—whether to eat, or just to look at, paint, identify, or study—the festival is perfect. It’s a small festival, a village festival just like in the movies or an episode of *Gilmore Girls*.

The festival is first and foremost a market featuring fresh mushrooms, mushroom chocolate, “mycological wonders,” and crafts (shaped like mushrooms).
There will also be “fungi”-themed activities—temporary tattoos by Lili Grand and Corbo, a mushroom-drawing workshop, mini-talks to learn more about the delicious mycelium, and some really cute activities for kids.

SAINTE-ANNE-DE-BELLEVUE
Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue has a lovely marina overlooking the lake and a tree-lined promenade to stroll along the water’s edge. In the fall, grab ato-go pumpkin spice latteand linger on the promenade.
That’s also where you’ll find the most beautiful arboretum accessible by public transit from Montreal, the Morgan Arboretum—where you can also go for a walk to look for mushrooms.
