It’s finally warm and sunny in Montreal, after a disastrous winter and spring—wet, cold, slippery, and endless. Summer, now at the height of its warmth—with heat haze, plants that have grown up the walls and climbed to tropical heights, and sun-kissed skin—will also linger.
The year 2026 will come to a gentle end—a bit rainy, but under the sun-and-clouds sky typical of a storybook autumn. We’ll have time to stroll among the fall colors, decorate the iron staircases for Halloween, and enjoy the sun on our skin until the Winter Solstice.
WEATHER FORECAST FOR FALL 2026
Fall officially begins on the day of the Fall Equinox —September 22. On that date, it will still be 17–18 degrees with bright sunshine. Summer will stretch into the fall season, and the colors are expected to appear around mid-October.
OCTOBER 2026
October will be fairly mild, with average highs of 13 degrees and lows of 7 degrees.
Mild weather means a bit of rain, and there will be 9 days of rain this month—but 14 days of sunshine.
The last week of October—Halloween week—is forecast to bring temperatures in the low teens, sunshine, and a few clouds. This year, we’ll be celebrating Halloween without our winter coats.
And in Quebec (though not officially), a mild Halloween means the first snow will fall by Christmas.
NOVEMBER 2026
Of course, the weather cools off in November—there are no miracles, after all. For the month, average highs are 6 degrees and lows are 1 degree. Over the course of the month, temperatures will drop by about ten degrees.
There will be quite a bit of rain—8 days and plenty of showers—but also 13 days of sunshine forecast. For a November in Quebec, that’s a lot of sunshine. A few snowflakes are forecast for the end of the month, but no snow that sticks to the ground.
DECEMBER 2026
Fall ends on December 21—the day of the winter solstice. But for the first three weeks of the month, there will be a little sun, a few clouds, and a little snow.
Temperatures will drop another 10 degrees and a few more, with lows of -14 degrees and highs of -6 degrees during the week of December 14–20.
I’m not sure there’ll be snow on the ground by Christmas—though the holidays are always pretty magical, whether there are a few snowflakes or the white blanket you see on postcards.
