Winter in Montreal lasts about 6 months – from November to April. That’s six months of the year when any outdoor stroll around town feels like one of Indiana Jones’ least sexy adventures.
Of course, the city is made for it – and we don’t spend the winter in total depression, alone at home. Montreal doesn’t hibernate, even in the coldest month of the year….
And because we want to go beyond galleries, events and winter evenings, we also want to drink a cocktail outside (but in the warmth).
Cocktails (almost) in the snow
At Auberge Saint-Gabriel
Fondue savoyarde under a dome under the stars, it’s almost like camping – only much, much more glamorous.
Two for a date – with a long walk under the snow on the Old Port afterwards to digest.

Where? Auberge Saint-Gabriel, 426 rue Saint-Gabriel
When? Until end of March 2026
How? The fondue evening is $95 per person (with charcuterie, Swiss fondue, bread and chocolate fondue for dessert) – to reserve, click here!
At the Belvu terrace…
For the brave, this is an open-air winter terrace (the only one in Montreal). Surrounded by braziers, heaters and wrapped in fur blankets, it’s the city’s most icy cocktail.
You can also enjoy a grilled-cheese, mulled wine or hot toddy, in keeping with the terrace’s après-ski theme.

Where? Terrasse Belvu Hors-Piste, in the Marriott Château-Champlain, 1050 de la Gauchetière St. W.
When? Saturday and Sunday, 2 pm to 6 pm
How? no reservations required
At William Gray…
For a dinner option with one of the best views of Montreal’s Old Port and the frozen river, throw a fur blanket over your shoulders and dine on the terrace of the William Gray Hotel.

Where? 8th-floor terrace of the Hôtel William Gray, 421 rue Saint-Vincent.
When? Until April 12, 2026
How to get there? The domes are for a minimum of 4 people, and to reserve, click here!
Happy winter!
