Did you know that the word “orchid” comes from Latin, derived from the ancient Greek ὄρχις /órkhis? It means “testicle”—referring to the shape of the tubers of the European varieties of this vast family of flowers. For those planning to bring a crush to OrchidExpo this year, it’s a great icebreaker. It’s almost a charming fun fact .
The expo, organized by the Orchidophiles de Montréal, will be held on the weekend of March 21 and 22, 2026, at Collège Ahuntsic. Visitors will be able to see the most beautiful orchids in the country, all in one place, spend time surrounded by these tropical plants, and even leave with an orchid to bring a little warmth and beauty back to their apartments.
Oh! Orchids!
In addition to the inspiring shapes of the flowers, we love OrchidExpo because the event will bring together orchid growers from Asia, South America, and North America—as well as the Montreal Botanical Garden, which has one of the most beautiful orchid collections in the world. There will also be members of Canadian Orchid Societies, who will be exhibiting their private collections.
Orchids are a very large family of flowers—a little alien in appearance, a little sexy, and very, very diverse. In addition to rare orchids, visitors will be able to see fragrant orchids, photos and works of art, and Ikebana floral arrangements.

It’s time to, like a plant, breathe in the warmth and humidity of the soil before spring arrives in Montreal. Soon, soon…
