Winter is long, unfortunately, and we skied all the mountains in the area before February! After cross-country skiing, ice skating, and downhill skiing, we’re going to try something a little different and hike to some frozen waterfalls.
The trail is a well-kept secret, the falls are sublime depending on their level of glaciation and the week’s snowfall, and with or without crampons, the hike is fairly easy.
It’s a 3-hour drive from downtown Montreal (3 and a half times Pink Floyd’sDark Side of the Moon) to Quebec City and Mont Saint-Anne…
Jean-Larose Falls
Mont Saint-Anne is a ski and winter sports resort very close to Quebec City, overlooking the St. Lawrence River, which always looks gigantic when viewed from Quebec City. It is the favorite resort of Quebec City residents because it is quick and easy to get to, and it is city-sized but with an expanse of forest and natural, protected trails.

You can walk in several areas that are suitable for hiking, and in the Jean-Larose area you can walk 4 km (loop) and climb 400 steps—weather permitting—to a beautiful waterfall that freezes in winter and creates supernatural and very poetic shapes that are beautiful to photograph.
