Montreal stores – open or closed on January 1?
While the big supermarkets will be closed on New Year’s Day (Métro, IGA, Provigo), some will still be open!
Most Adonis, Marché PA, Métro Plus and Provigo Le Marché stores will be open on January 1st – but be sure to check whether yours will be, and at what times!

Most of Montreal’s other businesses – cafés, restaurants, bookstores, etc. – will be closed.
Although most restaurants will be closed on January 1, 2026 – because chefs get a day off too . We recommend shopping on the 31st before going out in the evening, and cooking yourself a salad on the 1st – or eating leftovers from New Year’s Eve…
