It’s apple season in Quebec! Now that the air is getting cooler and the flowers have fallen from the trees, you can even spot little apples on the streets and in the parks of Montreal.
To celebrate apple season, we’ll pick apples from the region’s most charming orchards, make applesauce, cakes, and—of course—apple pies.
The apple pie, older and more nostalgic than summer’s lemon tarts, is almost impossible to mess up but can sometimes be nothing short of sublime. Especially when served with vanilla ice cream and a cup of black coffee.
The best apple pie in the region is at the Stanbridge East Apple Pie Festival, and this year it’s on Sunday, September 20, 2026—the festival’s 42nd edition.

THE APPLE PIE FESTIVAL
Stanbridge East is a tiny English-speaking village in the township of Brome-Missisquoi, and one of the prettiest villages in Quebec. It’s on the Wine Route, right in the heart of the local vineyards and orchards of Frelighsburg, and close to the charming village of Knowlton-Lac Brôme.
In East Stanbridge lies one of the region’s beating hearts: the Missisquoi Museum. It’s a museum dedicated to the region’s archives and colonial history. It’s divided into three buildings: the Cornell Mill, the Hodge General Store, and the Walbridge Barn (a 12-sided, dodecagonal building).

The Apple Pie Festival, which has been held every fall for 42 years, is a fundraiser for the museum and a beloved local community event.
There’s apple pie with ice cream, coffee, market stalls, activities for kids, and plenty of charm. It’s one of the best ways to enjoy a day out in the Eastern Townships.
