A polar vortex descends from the plains to hit Montreal this week -The wind will rip off the chapkas of the most fashionable among us, and we’ll be holding on tight to the hands of our smallest children, lest they be swept away by the wind sweeping violently through the city streets.
It’s the start of a long, cold and chaotic winter, but of course, Quebecers find something positive in the midst of the worst cold snaps.
All winter long, we’ll be able to go sliding in the country’s biggest sliding center, and it’s only a 30-minute drive from downtown Montreal…
Domaine du Pays d’en Haut
Domaine du Pays d’en Haut is 70 years old this year, and is still run by the Raymond family. In its early days, the Domaine was a maple grove – then came the addition of slides, a ski lift and 88 trails on three slopes.
Today, there’s snow tubing, snow bobsleigh, vortex360, tornado and snow rafting – you can slide all day long without getting bored.

For a family snow day, this is the perfect place to get some fresh air and (re)fall in love with the season. And, in the Laurentian mountains, the snow is much more pleasant than the gravel-filled snow on the streets of Montreal…
