Every year, during the coldest days of winter, snow sports come right to downtown Montreal so that hard-working Montrealers (who never see the sun) can also pretend they’re in the countryside.
Montrealers’ relationship with snow goes from wonder to irritation to terror and anger every year. But for the love of snow that we feel (sporadically) intensely on sunny days, a good slide helps.
In the heart of Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles, you can slide like children (or with children) and spend an evening or afternoon playing in the snow. And what’s more, it’s free…
Urban slides

At Glissades Gamelin, there are six slopes, four sports, a heated chalet, and a café (for hot chocolate after skiing).
You can slide down the slopes on a sled, snowboard, snow skate, beginner snowboard, or snow scooter.
The four slides are ranked in order of intensity, from the gentlest—for children—to the most intense—for those who want to impress their date. There’s the Mollo for the gentlest, the Yolo for those who want thrills, and the Fomo. The Fomo has four lanes, so you can race with those next to you.
After a few slides, or for those who feel the cold, there are two places where you can rest and watch the children slide. The heated chalet at Glissades Gamelin is called L’Après-glisse, and you can also grab a coffee or hot chocolate at Café Tranquille.
