In the summer, our hiking boots stare at us from their corner on the polished floor of our apartment—looking a bit sad. Even if we have to work, we want to do it from the top of a mountain, deep in the heart of a forest, or on a deserted island. Under the sun, at any rate.
You can break in your hiking boots and give your bug spray a good spray not too far from Montreal, at Parc des Chutes de Sainte-Ursule.
SAINTE-URSULE FALLS PARK
About a little over an hour and a half’s drive from Montreal, Parc des Chutes de Sainte-Ursule is another natural beauty featuring stunning waterfalls.
You can take a beautiful hike through the forest—a dense, mysterious forest, just the way we like it—and stop along the way to enjoy spectacular views of the 70-meter falls.
We recommend crossing the very pretty little red bridge, taking a trail along the Maskinongé River, having a picnic at a beautiful overlook, and walking down to the beach to dip your (bare) feet in the white sand and maybe soak up a little sun.
Unfortunately, swimming isn’t allowed, but the coolness of the falls provides relief from Quebec’s tropical summer heat.
You can also take a dog for a walk there, on a leash.
