This weekend, we have three days for Thanksgiving—Saturday, October 10, Sunday, October 11, and Monday, October 12, which is a holiday. To see what will be open and closed in Montreal on Monday, October 12, 2026, click here.
We recommend checking the road status before heading out for a weekend at your in-laws’, for lunch with family, or for a barbecue or potluck at a friend’s house.
This weekend, in the great Montreal tradition of road closures, construction, and well-timed marathons, taking the car and going anywhere is going to be very complicated.

ROAD CLOSURES, DETOURS, AND THE LA FONTAINE TUNNEL DURING THANKSGIVING WEEKEND
From October 9 to 13, large sections of one of the exits (and entrances) to the Island of Montreal will be closed for construction.
The A-25 highway southbound, including the Louis-Hippolyte-La-Fontaine Tunnel, will be completely closed on these dates (starting at the Anjou Interchange). Northbound, the highway will also be closed at night.

From October 9 to 11, 2026, the Montreal Beneva Marathon will take place. The streets used by runners (in the Île Sainte-Hélène, Old Montreal, Downtown, Plateau-Mont-Royal neighborhoods, and toward Maisonneuve Park) will be closed gradually, generally between 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on all three days of the marathon.
On October 9, there shouldn’t be too many street closures in Montreal— it’s the “mile” race, and the route is here.
The marathon route—for Sunday, October 11, 2026—is available here, for those who want to plan their outings and for those who live near the route and will have to spend the day at home.
However, STM buses will be rerouted on Sunday, October 11. There will also be temporary service cancellations, notably on routes 10, 14, 20, 27, 47, 55, and 94.
We also recommend avoiding the Jean-Drapeau, Pie-IX, and Viau metro stations. For all the information on detours, cancellations, and STM closures during the Montreal Beneva Marathon, click here.
