July 14, which marks the storming of the Bastille, is going to be very French in Montreal because the European heat wave will brush against the shores of the St. Lawrence River. A high of 34 degrees Celsius is forecast for Montreal on July 14, 2026, with a heat index of 45 degrees.
Temperatures won’t drop below 20 degrees at night until Wednesday evening—it’s a heat wave on July 13, 14, and 15, 2026.
Heat wave!
Highs for the coming days are forecast to range between 29 and 34 degrees, which still seems quite bearable. Some might say,“Pffff, 30 degrees is nothing!” But let’s not forgetthe humidex—it’s an index used during heat waves to reflect how hot most people actually feel.
The heat index will reach 45 degrees on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in the afternoon. And of course, with all this muggy heat, we can expect potentially severe thunderstorms, which are forecast for the evening of the 14th.
On the night of July 15, the temperature will drop below 19 degrees Celsius, and it will still be very hot for the rest of the week—but we won’t be calling it a heat wave anymore.
Stay cool
Heat, especiallyextreme heat, is dangerousfor the most vulnerable people (children, seniors, and those with chronic illnesses), and even if you’re in great shape, you’ll need to be very careful and take it easy—and stay cool—over the next few days.
Montreal, like the rest of the world, has been facing more and more heat waves in recent years due to global warming. How do we stay cool?
Recommendations from Environment Canada
To get through the heat wave with grace —and perhaps even emerge with a golden pre-vacation glow —Environment Canada has some recommendations:
- Let’s take care of our elders—call them, bring them some cold water, and rummage through the closets to find their widest hats (style matters, too). Shortness of breath, very red cheeks, and dizziness are signs that the heat is too intense, and we need to monitor these symptoms closely.
- …so drink water very often, even if you’re not thirsty (and unfortunately, you can’t replace water withNitrobrewbecause coffee dehydrates you).
- if you have air conditioning, turn it on(and if not, turn on every fan you can find)
- …just wearloose-fitting, light-coloredclothes
- we’ll go out and do activitiesduring the cooler hours(early in the morning, late in the afternoon)
- Don’t leavechildren, pets (or our parents) in the car, because the heat inside a closed car will be just like that of an oven.
