In 2026, we’ll be going to the museum more – and with good reason. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, where we can still see our favorite exhibition of the year – Kent Monkman: History is Depicted by Victors, has a calendar for the year that’s pretty exceptional.
It’s good for our good resolutions, it’s a chance to see the work of artists who almost never come to Montreal, and it’s a good way to start filling the 2026 agenda we received in our Christmas stocking…
Calendar of exhibitions at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 2026
February 12-August 9: Richard Avedon: Immortal. Portraits of the Passing of Time, 1951-2004
The exhibition will feature portraits by cult American photographer Richard Avedon, from Chet Baker to Jean Renoir, revisiting the most influential faces of the 20th century through a hundred portraits.

March 14-July 19: The Torlonia Collection: Masterpieces of Roman Sculpture
The museum presents 58 hyper-realistic marble sculptures by the masters of Roman sculpture, in the only presentation of the collection in Canada.

September 26, 2026-February 14, 2027: Chiharu Shiota: The Tremors of the Soul
The exhibition is dedicated to the work of Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota and her monumental installations woven from red, black or white threads.

October 9, 2026-March 14, 2027: Allison Katz: Jeu d’esprit
This is the first indivudual exhibition of Montreal painter Allison Katz and her dreamlike work.

November 2026-April 2027: Anne Kahane: Structures
From November 2026, the Musée des Beaux-Arts presents sculptures and graphic works by Austrian artist – and adopted Montrealer – Anne Kahane.
