For the holiday season, we’re craving something old-fashioned and cozy. We’re a little tired of the big glass and concrete buildings of downtown, the neon lights of the bars and the small icy steel tables of Montreal’s trendiest cafés.
We want the ribbons and velvet of Little Women, long afternoons by the fire, walks in the snow and thick, old-fashioned hot chocolate. We want to read, we want to do it all on foot, and we want some of that old-fashioned charm – with Baby, It’s Cold Outside blaring from the car radio…
And for that, we’re heading to Hudson, Montérégie, to visit its ultra-charming holiday market at the end of November!
Hudson, Montérégie
Less than an hour from downtown Montreal, Hudson is a small village on the shores of Lake of Two Mountains. In the photo above, it’s a ferry from Oka heading for the small town of Hudson.
We take a walk on the beach with a (home-knitted) scarf around our neck at Sandy Beach, hang out in the little boutiques, take a walk in the forest…
For charm, we also recommend sleeping or lunching (the breakfast is reputed to be exceptional, by reservation only) at the Maison Rose. You’d think this hotel was straight out of an old Christmas movie…

Christmas market at Alibi Barn
In this idyllic setting that makes us want to borrow a beaver muff from our grandmother, we’re off to visit the Hudson Christmas Market!
We’ll be at the Alibi Barn in Hudson on November 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30 and December 5, 6 and 7.
We’ll be able to meet Santa, grab a bite to eat under the tent, buy Christmas gifts from local artisans and take holiday photos with the kids…
