Ah, Halloween! You wouldn’t think so at first glance, but it’s one of the most romantic evenings of the year. The masks, hands reaching into a big bowl of mini Snickers, the shadows growing longer.
And, for the past few days, the weather has turned gloomy in Montreal. It’s raining a little, gusts of wind are whipping up the fallen leaves (and everything else), and night is settling over the city earlier and earlier. On October 4, the sun sets at 6:30 p.m. for the first time this year—and the days will grow shorter and shorter.
To charm ourcrush, we’ve got a few date ideas for the entire month of October, all centered around the tantalizing theme of thespookiest, scariestnightofthe year. Because falling in love is a bit like visiting the best haunted house in town…

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15: FOR CINEPHILES WITH A SLIGHTLY “FREAKY” SIDE—THE DEVILS (1971) AT THE CINÉMA DU PARC
For Halloween, the Cinéma du Parc has chosen one of the most thrilling films to see this season: Ken Russell’s *THE DEVILS* (1971).
We go in knowing what to expect, with a crush who knows what’s coming—because it’s a little twisted—and it’s being screened in 4K restoration and as a “director’s cut” in the original language with French subtitles. And afterward, we take a walk to catch our breath.
Where? Cinéma du Parc, at 3575 Avenue du Parc
When? Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. and 9:35 p.m.
How much? Tickets are $16.25

FOR THOSE WHO PLAY “TAG”— A HAUNTED MAZE
Scaring yourself is good for your health. Even if our fears in the city tend to be more like a guy with a phone on a tripod asking for our opinion under the ring at Place Ville-Marie or running into an ex in a deserted alley on the Plateau, fear does us good.
Since time immemorial, it has sharpened our reflexes and instincts. And fear—in small doses—can really spark a crush.
And, technically, what scares a human the most is being chased (not by a lover, though). There’ll be clowns, masks, cardio, and lots of corn.
Where? Ferme Marineau, 4356 Dagenais Blvd. W., Laval
When? Eight evenings in October 2026, starting at 7:00 p.m.
Friday, October 16, 2026
Saturday, October 17, 2026
Friday, October 23, 2026
Saturday, October 24, 2026
Thursday, October 29, 2026
Friday, October 30, 2026
Saturday, October 31, 2026
Sunday, November 1, 2026

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO FLIRT GENTLY, WITHOUT SCARING EACH OTHER OFF— A PUMPKIN LATTE AND A WALK IN THE PARK
Halloween season doesn’t have to be scary, and for a new crush or someone you don’t know very well, a stroll through a park and a coffee to go make for a perfect first date.
And besides, given the price of pumpkin lattes, our hearts are going to be racing anyway. Our favorite combos for an October date:
- a stroll through La Fontaine Park, a coffee to go, and a flan to share from Bah! Café
La Fontaine Park, at 3819 Calixa-Lavallée Avenue, open 7 days a week from 6 a.m. to midnight
Bah! Café, at 857 Marie-Anne St. E, Montreal
- a stroll along the Lachine Canal and a pumpkin latte at Café Brut
