We had expected a long, mild fall, with plenty of sunshine and a warm breeze that makes it almost too hot when you’re sipping an “extra-hot” pumpkin latte. And then, because Quebec’s weather is unpredictable, a Frost Advisory has been issued for tonight in Montreal.
On the night of Tuesday, October 6, to Wednesday, October 7, 2026, temperatures will drop below zero, and Montreal will experience its first frost of the cold season.

FROST ADVISORY FOR MONTREAL
The first frost of the year in Montreal will occur on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, and the frost advisory for the night of October 6–7 affects several cities in Quebec and several areas of the region.
For Montreal, the Frost Advisory affects Zone 5b on the Island of Montreal. Zone 5b is a classification used by farmers and horticulturists—frost is very harmful to most flowers. Zone 5b is a hardiness zone, a classification determined by Natural Resources Canada based on temperatures, precipitation (rain and snow), the number of frost-free days, and wind speeds.
Hardiness Zone 5b covers Montreal and southern Quebec. However, certain parts of the island—the Plateau, Rosemont, and Ville-Marie—are in Zone 6a due to the urban heat island effect. For the lucky residents living there, the first frost will occur between October 10 and 15, 2026.
To find your municipality’s hardiness zone, check out this interactive map.

Environment Canada has issued a Frost Advisory for the night of October 6, 2026, and the ground is expected to freeze for the first time this year.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE END OF OCTOBER 2026
Will it snow for Halloween? Maybe. We’ll find out later. What we do know is that October 2026 will cool down very quickly.
The last week of October—Halloween week—is forecast to bring temperatures in the low teens, sunshine, and a few clouds. This year, Halloween will be celebrated without winter coats.
And in Quebec (though not officially), a mild Halloween means the first snow will fall by Christmas.
