Montrealers are called upon to vote, until March 17, to choose the projects that will be carried out in the city over the next few years. There are 38 of them, and 15 can be chosen to receive the $45 million allocated to this participatory budget.
What is the participatory budget?
It’s a portion of the City of Montreal’s municipal budget that is reserved for projects created and chosen by Montrealers.
The participatory budget, which will be allocated to selected projects, is $45 million. At least $10 million of the budget is reserved for projects that meet the needs of young people.
Once the projects have been selected, this budget will be spent on grants ranging from $500,000 to $10 million, until it is exhausted.
What are the proposed projects?
This winter, Montrealers submitted 880 ideas for urban development projects or municipal facilities that would contribute to the city’s ecological and social transition.
These projects follow the themes of youth, safety and equity.
From these 880 ideas, 38 projects have been pre-selected and are now put to the vote of all Montrealers!
There are projects to green the city and involve Montrealers in participatory gardens, local markets and green corridors.
There are also community living spaces, park projects, sports facilities and safe travel routes!
How to vote?
All Montrealers over the age of 12 and all local merchants can vote for the 15 projects they consider most important for the community.
You have to vote online, and set aside some time to read the descriptions of the 38 proposed projects.
