This year marks the 15th edition of Comiccon de Montréal. Comiccon is a gathering of all the geeks and nerds of cinema, series and pop culture – and we can’t help but get a little hysterical when we see this year’s line-up…
The event takes place on July 4, 5 and 6 at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal.
The retro-future line-up
When we were kids, we all visited the Biodôme – at school and with our parents – to “explore” the universe, and because we all wanted to be astronauts when we grew up. And one of the reasons we wanted to go into space (what an idea!) was Star Trek. The costumes, the lighting, the retro-futuristic decor… It’s a world you want to dive into whenever it’s cold outside, or you’re on vacation at the cottage and it’s raining.
And that’s great, because the guest of honor at this year’s Comiccon is Canadian actor and original Captain Kirk of the William Shatner series. He’ll be there on July 5 and 6, and we need to take a deep breath, because we’ll have the opportunity to meet this legend of the small (and big) screen.
The Contrée line-up
This year’s other guest of honor is Andy Serkis. The actor, director and king of motion-capture on a blue background played the mythical Gollum (my favorite) in the Lord of the Rings trilogy – among others – and will be at the Palais des Congrès on July 5 and 6.
Not only will we get to see Andy Serkis, but this Comiccon will feature a very rare event: a reunion of 3 Lord of the Rings hobbits with Serkis.
On July 5 at 8pm, there will be an event – A Night in the Shire with the 3 Hobbits and Gollum. Actors Elijah Wood (Frodo), Sean Astin (Sam) and Billy Boyd (Pippin) will join Andy Serkis for an evening to remember…
Events, guests, details
In addition to all these guests, the evening will also feature Rose McGowan, Peter Weller (Robocop), Brent Spiner (Star Trek: Next Generation), Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th part VII: the new blood hatchet) and Jim Starlin (Dreadstar).
There will also be – and this is the first of its kind in Canada – a cosplay contest (a mix of costumes created to resemble those of leading pop-culture characters and performance art), and it’s called Cosplay-Eh!
Details, surprises and events will be released in dribs and drabs, but we recommend you get your tickets on the Comiccon website here!
Perfect, between now and July, we’ve got just enough time to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy and all three seasons of Star Trek: The Original Series.
See you there, nerds!
